on hold until further notice
St. Matthew’s is open for in-person services, but many faith and fellowship activities will continue to be offered online only at this time. Read on to find out how to join our activities!
You don’t need to be a member of St. Matthew’s to attend our in-person or online activities. All are welcome and we look forward to you joining us for conversation and community!
Time: Wednesday 12 PM – 1 PM
Join us on Zoom to study the Gospel reading for the following Sunday.
You can read the Gospel reading on the Bible Gateway (NRSV) website. You can also download a NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) Bible app from Google Play or the App Store.
The group is co-led by Rev. Geoff Chapman and Canon Kevin Flynn.
Lent is fast approaching! In addition to our Wednesday noon Bible Study that explores the texts for the upcoming Sunday on Zoom, we are offering two new study offerings in Lent.
Time: Tuesday evenings on Zoom, from Tuesday, February 20th until Tuesday, March 19th at 7:30 PM
On Tuesday evenings on Zoom, from Tuesday, February 20th until Tuesday, March 19th at 7:30 pm we will be meeting to enjoy a book study of Frederick Buechner’s A Room Called Remember. Frederick Buechner is a wonderful Christian author and preacher has a unique, poetic, and courageously honest pastoral voice. He will be a welcome and thoughtful presence to have with us throughout Lent (in text!) This book is widely available at good and evil book stores online, and we have also placed an order for several copies from Perfect Books, a local book store. Reach out to them for a copy if you want to purchase one locally. The Zoom coordinates are here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87919582498?pwd=w0grvA2uvTvJ8DS9xU0glfjkRPMBnf.1
Time: Thursday, February 15th to Thursday, March 21st at 12:00PM - 1:00 PM
A second study series will take place from Thursday, February 15th to Thursday, March 21st in the chapel from noon until 1:00 pm. For the “full experience,” consider joining us for the 10:00 am Eucharist, bring a bagged lunch to eat afterwards, and join in discussion at noon. I will be participating in these sessions, but they will be led by the capable and qualified Annie Macdonald, a member of our parish who is discerning the role of Lay Reader. A course description will be sent out in the eblast. I hope you will consider join in with one or more of these opportunities to deepen and challenge your knowledge of the Christian faith. I look forward to this time with you! Geoff+
Creation Matters Meetings
Time: Alternate Tuesdays 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
The focus of St. Matthew’s Creation Matters group is ‘caring for God’s creation.’ We are stewards of God’s world and can show our love for God and others by caring for our planet. The group meets on a regular basis via Zoom to:
New members are always welcome. You don’t need to be a member of St. Matthew’s to come to our discussions and be part of our group email.
This year we are using Restoring God’s Earth: A Year of Personal Action to guide us and focus our activities in the parish. See what’s happening on our bulletin board at the back of the church.
Time: Wednesday, 11 AM – 12 PM
Hybrid in-person and Zoom on the following Wednesdays:
The in-person meditation sessions are held in the church near the prayer candle in the west transept.
The meditation group is part of the worldwide organization called World Community for Christian Meditation. We open with a brief recorded talk by founder Fr. John Main, Director Fr. Laurence Freeman or by another teacher. After the talk, the group meditates in silence for 20-25 minutes, generally using a prayer word or phrase. We then close with a simple prayer. The group is a wonderful way to support a daily practice or just take time to sit in openness to God's presence.
Time: Sundays from 9-10am in the alcove (on hold until further notice)
Conversations is a 50 minute discussion group based on Bible readings and topics related to faith. Using biblical texts, poems, the free exchange of ideas and perceptions, we seek to reflect on our journey as followers of Jesus in our contemporary world.
Please join us for this well-attended fellowship offering! All are welcome, and no pre-registration is required.
