Christian education at St. Matthew’s

Due to COVID-19, our programming is taking place online. You do not need to be a member of St. Matthew’s to join our events.

Events on Zoom allow visitors and those from far away to take part in our learning and spiritual opportunities. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with questions or to receive details on how to join these events.

We look forward to you joining us!

Bible study

Time: Wednesday 12 PM – 1 PM

Zoom: Contact Kevin Flynn at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Join us on Zoom to study the Gospel reading for the following Sunday.

You will find the reading for the following Sunday on page two of the service bulletin or you can visit the Anglican Lectionary and locate the reading by changing the date in the Show new date search box.

You can read the Gospel reading on the Bible Gateway (NRSV) website. You can also download a NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) Bible app from Google Play or the App Store.

The group is co-led by Rev. Geoff Chapman and Canon Kevin Flynn.

Conversations

The popular weekly Conversations sessions are taking a summer break. We look forward to seeing you again in September!

Meditation

There are two meditation sessions each week.

Time: Monday, 7:15 PM – 8 PM

Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83893734708 Meeting ID: 838 9373 4708

Time: Wednesday, 11:15 AM – 12 PM

Zoom: Contact Sue Rayner at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 613-233-8380

The meditation group is part of the worldwide organization called World Community for Christian Meditation. We open with a brief recorded talk by founder Fr. John Main or by another teacher. After the talk, the group meditates in silence for 20-25 minutes, generally using a prayer word or phrase. We then close with a simple prayer. The group is a wonderful way to support a daily practice or just take time to sit in openness to God's presence.

Learning and activities for children and youth

During July and August there are no online Sunday School classes.

Sunday School

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Sunday school classes are being offered on Zoom. Younger students (ages 3-8) meet Sundays at 9 a.m. and older students (ages 9 and up) meet Sundays at 11 a.m.

We continue to use the SPARK curriculum and Bible and include crafts and interactive activities in our lessons in order to keep classes engaging. The SPARK curriculum follows the Anglican lectionary.

We also regularly post content for children and families on St. Matthew’s Facebook page.

Children and Youth Ministries is committed to keeping everyone safe. We will hold virtual or physically distanced activities in order to respect public health and diocesan guidelines.

If your child or children would like to participate in any our activities, please contact Aïcha Ducharme-LeBlanc (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Children are welcome to join at anytime throughout the year.

Youth Group

Due to COVID-19, at this time we will hold virtual or physically distanced activities to respect public health and diocesan guidelines.

We have two youth groups: one for ages 9 to 11 and another for 12 to 16. Both groups aim to meet monthly.

The junior group activities range from bible studies, to board games, to cooking, to field trips and more. The senior group focuses on outreach.

If you wish to participate, please contact our youth coordinators Aïcha Ducharme-LeBlanc (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Becky McCoy (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
