Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent, a forty-day period before Easter, during which, as members of the Christian Community, we reflect on our vulnerability and weaknesses as human beings - our failure to live as God would have us live. Many people fast on Ash Wednesday, to remove the distractions of food and drink from a focus on God. At the Ash Wednesday Service, those who wish may have a small mark of Ashes imposed on their foreheads, as a sign of repentance, and as a reminder that our physical bodies "are but dust, and to dust shall return".
All are welcome to this service.
